According to a recent report from the NCAA, lacrosse is the fastest growing collegiate sport in America and it's growing westward. The University of Arizona Men’s Lacrosse Team was founded in 1961. They are affectionately known as the Laxcats. This year the Laxcats earned a playoff berth in the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Championships for the first time since 2007 and finished the season ranked 10th in the nation. Four players from this year’s team were named MCLA Division 1 All-Americans, including Senior Goalie and two-time All-American Tanner Knego, Senior Defenseman Nolan Baker, Defenseman Griffin Goudreau and LSM Jackson Pinney. The most famous former Laxcat was a feisty goalie by the name of Gerry Rivers, aka Geraldo Rivera, journalist. Current Head Coach, Derek Pedrick played for the Springfield College Pride and went on to coach at Trinity College, College of Wooster and Sienna College before leading the University of Arizona Men's Lacrosse team.
