AZ WEEK: Arizona Leaders Debate Education Funding

Also on the program: update on proposal for Tucson-Phoenix passenger rail.

Gov. Doug Ducey wants to infuse Arizona’s K-12 education system with additional money from the State Land Trust Fund, but state Treasurer Jeff DeWit says there are flaws in the plan.

Arizona Week Friday looks at the debate to put more money into the classroom.

On the program:

  • Host Lorraine Rivera speaks with Ducey about his plan to boost funding for Arizona education, the state’s relationship with Mexico and an upcoming trip to Washington.
  • Arizona’s treasurer sees major flaws in the governor’s plan to fund education. AZPM’s Christopher Conover speaks with state Treasurer Jeff DeWit about his concerns.
  • Ducey’s visit to Alta Vista High School, an A-rated charter school in Tucson.
  • The latest on a proposal to connect Tucson and Phoenix by passenger rail. More than 150 possible routes have been narrowed to two options, and public response has been positive.
