Senate Bill 1024 did not initially garner much attention, but an amendment sponsored by Representative Judy Burges (R- Surprise) brought national attention to SB 1204. The Burges Amendment requires that candidates for President and Vice President submit proof to the Arizona Secretary of State’s office that they are in fact natural born citizens of the United States as required in the US Constitution.
On April 19, 2010 the full House approved the Burges Amendment.
On April 21, 2010, the full House approved SB 1204 on a 31-29 vote
