The issue moved into the public following continuing protests in Los Angeles.

Senate Republicans sent a news release encouraging Governor Katie Hobbs and Attorney General Kris Mayes to “cooperate with the Trump Administration” to enforce federal immigration laws and “keep Arizona communities safe from harm”.

The statement came after days of unrest in Los Angeles, which resulted in President Trump calling out the National Guard over the objections of California Gov. Gavin Newsom.

The Democratic Governors Association sent a letter protesting the President’s actions.

Gov. Hobbs was one of 22 Democratic Governors who signed the letter.

U.S. Northern Command issued a statement on Monday, announcing that 700 members of a Marine infantry battalion from their base at Twentynine Palms were being sent to Los Angeles to help the National Guard members who were sent by the President.
