The Ranch Fire burning just North of the US-Mexico border grew rapidly over the last 24 hours.
The fire, about 19 miles southeast of Patagonia, has burned about 2,751 acres, with zero percent containment as of this afternoon, but Tiffany Davila with the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management said the weather is favorable to firefighting crews.
“Fire behavior was significantly moderated yesterday, with the help of the aircraft and the boots on the ground and then overnight, it pretty much laid down because of the cooler temperatures and increased relative humidity levels, and that’s typically what happens with a grass fire,” she said.
Davila said about 135 personnel is currently working on the Ranch Fire, along with at least three large aircraft to control the blaze. It broke out Tuesday, reportedly after a tree was struck by lightning.
About 10 homes were affected by evacuation advisories, but those orders were lifted last night.
The majority of the state remains in Stage 2 fire restrictions, which prohibits campfires, firearm use, and fireworks. More detailed fire restrictions can be found at the Department of Forestry and Fire Management website.
