About 500 soldiers from Ft. Drum in New York are heading to Arizona to help with border enforcement.

The light infantry troops will be stationed at Ft. Huachuca in Sierra Vista. The soldiers will work with Homeland Security and Customs and Border Protection to support military operations at the Southern Border.

The soldiers from Fort Drum will join approximately 16 hundred active-duty personnel that President Donald Trump sent to the border earlier this year. This is in addition to the nearly 25 hundred service members already working with CBP.

For security reasons, the unit’s arrival date will not be released.

The troops will work in support rolls because active-duty military troops are prohibited by federal law from engaging in law enforcement within the United States.
